The Pratt Institute Libraries are pleased to announce a convenient new way for Pratt faculty, students, and staff to connect to library resources from off campus. Offsite access to electronic resources previously required several steps, but the new EZproxy system simply prompts users to enter their valid Pratt email username and password when they click on a link from the libraries’ list of subscription databases available at http://library.pratt.edu/databases.html. Instructions for using the new proxy system are available at http://library.pratt.edu/proxy2.html. Please feel free to call the Brooklyn campus library’s reference desk at (718)636-3704 or email a librarian at libref@pratt.edu if you have any questions.

Magnetic Resonance Book Display

October 2, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A display of books relating to magnetic resonance spectroscopy and art has been organized at Pratt Libraries in conjunction with the Science & Art Symposium on Wednesday, October 3, 2007. The display is on the first floor in the new books alcove at the Brooklyn campus library and will last through October 8th. A list of titles on display can be found at the reference desk.

The Science and Art Symposium at Pratt will highlight the collaborative research projects between Pratt, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and New York University involving the application of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (similar to MRI) to study the degradation processes of artworks such as illuminated manuscripts, works on paper, fresco and traditional oil paintings. The Pratt-Met-NYU team is internationally recognized as a leader in these studies and the only group in the US conducting this type of research. A series of lectures highlighting the projects and their connection to Art History and Fine Arts will be presented in the morning section. During the afternoon, a series of workshops will take place, on the use of Mobile NMR to look at art objects, colorimetry to measure color of paintings, short workshops of the science behind illuminated manuscripts and fresco paintings.

The display has been organized and arranged at Pratt Libraries by Laena McCarthy and Alycia Sellie, in collaboration with Dr. Del Federico and the Math & Science Department, SLAS.
